Wentworth, eThewini - Four men have appeared in the Wentworth Magistrate's Court for allegedly stealing tyres from vehicles belonging to the Ethekwini municipality, a spokesman said on Tuesday.

They were granted R5000 bail each after appearing in court on Monday, municipal spokesman Thabo Mofokeng said.

Police, acting on a tip-off, arrested two men after branded municipal tyres were found in their homes and business premises on Friday and Saturday.

He said police also arrested a Chatsworth businessman and a municipal employee who were off-loading the tyres from a municipal truck at a secluded place on Sunday.

Mofokeng said authorities seized a large consignment of tyres for both light and heavy vehicles. - Sapa
