Four in court for taxi violence

Johannesburg - Four people accused of taxi violence, murder and attempted murder appeared in the Sebokeng Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, the Hawks said.

The matter was moved to the High Court in Johannesburg, spokesman Paul Ramaloko said.

“They are still in custody and will be back in court on February 18 for a high court date.”

Seven men from the Vaal Wits Taxi Association, accused of violence and murder, were arrested on different occasions in December.

The violence resulted in the deaths of two taxi bosses and a 15-year-old teenager.

It was believed that the men were being shielded by a prosecutor and a number of police officers from being arrested, said Ramaloko.

“When the Hawks took over the case we noticed that a number of the cases were never resolved,” Ramaloko said at the time.

He said the other three men would appear in the Sebokeng Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
