Four murders, two rapes in North West

North West - Four murders and two rapes were reported in the North West at the weekend, police said on Monday.

Captain Pelonomi Makau said a 22-year-old man was fatally stabbed in the left side of the chest in extension eight, Khuma, after leaving a night vigil to buy a cigarette.

Makau said the man's body was found on the street. He was thought to have been killed by a neighbourhood gang.

A 27-year-old man was stabbed to death with a knife in Vryburg, said Makau. He was attacked while walking home from a tavern with a friend.

In Khuma, a 23-year-old man was stabbed to death in a fight in a shebeen.

His 25-year-old assailant stabbed him in the head, chest and left shoulder.

Makau said a 22-year-old man was fatally stabbed in the chest while walking home from a tavern in Kanana, Orkney location, when he refused to give a man matches.

He said a 12-year-old girl was raped at her house in Madikwe by a man who broke into her bedroom through a window. She told her mother who called police.

A 22-year-old woman was raped by her 28-year-old uncle, in the family home in Boitekong.

“Her mother was not around when the rape took place,” said Makau. He said that when she found out, the woman's mother called the police, who arrested the man. - Sapa
