Mmabatho - Four awaiting-trial prisoners who escaped from the Mmabatho police station in the North West last week have been re-arrested, the premier's office said on Wednesday.

Three of them were caught on Thursday at Extension 39 in Mmabatho after a tip-off. The fourth man was arrested on Saturday.

Gaothaelwe Lesole, 24, Charles Pheta, 28, and Mogomotsi Sebolane, 26, faced charges of robbery and hijacking.

The fourth man, 34-year-old Solomon Moleko, also known as Hammer Man, has been charged with rape and murder.

Acting premier Paul Sebegoe said: “We are relieved that the alleged “Hammer Man” is back behind bars.”

Three other escapees were still being sought, Sebegoe said.
