Johannesburg - Four men were expected to appear in the KwaMhlanga Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with a cash heist, Mpumalanga police said on Sunday.

Colonel Leonard Hlathi said the men were arrested on Wednesday after they allegedly robbed three security guards of an undisclosed amount of money and guns.

The guards had collected money from a shopping complex when the four armed men accosted them.

“The suspects, driving a Ford Bantam bakkie, pointed at the security guards with firearms, forcing the driver to stop. They then ordered the guards to lie down. They took the money and their firearms.”

Hlathi said the men fled in the cash van.

The security guards saw a police van and alerted the authorities. The police then apprehended the suspects, aged 21, 24, 28 and 33.

Six firearms - five 9mm pistols and an AK-47 - were found at the scene.

The money was also recovered, Hlathi said. - Sapa
