Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of the induna (headman) of Qhudeni, in KZN.
Johannesburg - A fourth person has been arrested in connection with the killing of two police officers in Sonland Park, Vereeniging, Gauteng police said on Friday.
The man, aged 27, was the last remaining suspect in the murder of the officers last month and was arrested in Snake Park, Dobsonville on Thursday evening, said Lt-Col Lungelo Dlamini.
“After the arrest, police followed up information which led them to a house in Orange Farm where two firearms, an R5 assault rifle and 9mm pistol, were recovered,” Dlamini said.
He said the firearms had belonged to the police officers who were killed on August 18.
Two other people, a 31-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman, were found at the house and were also arrested. They will face charges of the illegal possession of unlicensed firearms.
All three of the arrested will appear in the Vereeniging Magistrate's Court on Monday.
The two police officers were killed while attending to a hijacking complaint in Sonland Park on August 18.
Three other men, Erick Bongo, 27, Nhlanhla Malope, 33, and Rodney Mabelane, 31, appeared in the Vereeniging Magistrate's Court two weeks ago. The case was postponed to September 18.
They face charges of murder, house robbery, attempted murder, armed robbery, hijacking and possession of unlicensed firearms.
