Johannesburg - An elderly couple has been found murdered on their Trompsburg farm, Free State police said on Monday.

Johan Fourie, 70, and Cecile Fourie, 73, were last seen alive around 2pm after having lunch with their son in town, said Captain Harry Nagel.

“It is suspected that their attackers gained entry to the house while they were gone and waited for them.”

Nagel said the couple did not answer their two-way radio during a daily security check, nor did they answer their home phone.

Farm security investigated and found their bodies in a bedroom.

Nagel said the house was in disarray, with traces of blood all over. The safe had been cut open with a grinder.

“It is not known at this stage what was taken. It will only become clear once a complete list can be provided by family members,” Nagel said.
