Bloemfontein - Two Free State students appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Thursday accused of assaulting a student, Free State police said.

The matter was postponed to April 9, Captain Chaka Marope said.

He said Cobus Muller and Charl Blom were driving a bakkie on the University of the Free State's Bloemfontein campus on Monday night and allegedly ran over Muzi Gwebu.

Later, the two allegedly confronted Gwebu and assaulted him. Rector Jonathan Jansen said the university regarded the matter in a very serious light, and was doing its own investigation.

The university said the students, if found guilty in the criminal and institutional investigations, would not be allowed to study at the university.
