Frankfort – A rapist has been convicted and sentenced by the Bloemfontein High Court sitting at the Thabo Mofutsanyane District Child Justice Centre to life imprisonment as well as other lengthy prison terms, Free State police said on Sunday.

Mojalefa William Mofokeng, 20, of Namahadi village near Frankfort was this week sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape, 15 years for robbery, and five years for kidnapping, Sergeant Mmako Mophiring said.

On September 5, 2013, Mofokeng and two accomplices kidnapped a 16-year-old girl from her home and forced her into a nearby donga where they raped her. They then robbed her family of an entertainment unit and stabbed her uncle in the back.

One of the three, Moeketsi Sethunya, 19, was killed in a mob justice incident while trying to flee from the angry community. The third man, Mpharwane Steven Mosito, 18, was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment on October 27, 2016, Mophiring said.

Phuthaditjhaba policing cluster commander Maj-Gen Peter Moloi lauded the investigating officers in the case.

"My appreciation to Detective Warrant Officer Motlokoa Tsotetsi and Sergeant Butinyana Thito of Namahadi for their thorough investigation in ensuring such good sentences and to the community for providing information to the police,” Moloi said.
