Freezer murder accused in court

Mpumalanga - A third person has appeared in court for the alleged murder of an elderly Belfast couple whose bodies were found in a freezer, it was reported on Tuesday.

Colonel Leonard Hlathi said Sibusiso Charles Sibanyoni, 27, appeared in the Belfast Magistrate's Court, in Mpumalanga, on Monday, Beeld reported.

Rudolf and Elma van Heerden, both 79, were bludgeoned and strangled, and their bodies placed in a freezer, in January.

Sibanyoni was arrested at his home in Witbank on Saturday, Hlathi told the newspaper.

He was also accused, with Irvin Brown Nkosi, 19, of assaulting Phillip van der Linde and robbing him of his bakkie at his home in Carolina two days after the murders.

Nkosi was arrested with the bakkie near Mamelodi, in Pretoria, Hlathi told Beeld.

He said Sibanyoni was also expected to appear in the Middelburg Circuit Court with Nkosi and Bongani Nkangwane, 22. - Sapa
