A prison escapee was arrested in Mount Frere on Wednesday morning, the Correctional Services Department said.
Police were tipped off and he was apprehended at 8:15am, spokeswoman Zama Feni said in a statement.
Lusuko Tataba was serving a 34-year sentence for rape. The 27-year-old escaped last week.
Police on Wednesday also arrested a correctional centre official who is believed to have helped Tataba escape.
“The official is alleged to have escorted the offender out of the gate of the facility,” said Feni.
