A fugitive, wanted on two counts of murder, has been re-arrested in Brooksnek near Mount Ayliff, Eastern Cape police said on Sunday.
Captain Mlungisi Matidane said “highly wanted” Langa Lingane, 26, was arrested around 3.30pm on Saturday.
“He was in a room (with others) and when he saw police they started running. He had two stones in both hands which he was about to throw at the police. They tried to overcome him by shooting him in the left leg and he was injured and arrested.”
Matidane said Lingane was taken to Mount Ayliff hospital for medical treatment and was under police guard.
He was first arrested in June last year after he allegedly murdered two people who were known to him, a month earlier.
Pretending to be another prisoner who was expected to appear before the court on a bail application, Lingane was able to escape from the Harding police station where he was being kept, said Matidane. - Sapa
