Limpopo -

A funeral service will be held on Saturday for three Limpopo children stoned to death last week, a provincial government official said.

The service would start at 7am at the Mookgopong sports ground in Naboomspruit, health and social development department spokeswoman Sinenhlanhla Gumede said on Friday.

MEC Norman Mabasa would not attend the service because of commitments outside the province.

Officials from the education, and health and social development departments were expected to be present.

The bodies of nine-year-old Bafana Kekana, Hosea Richard Kekana, 10, and Johana Kekana, 12, were found in Naboomspruit last Saturday.

They had been stoned to death, and their hands and feet bound with shoelaces. They were last seen on August 15 during a march to demand more teachers at their school, Dikobo Primary.

Johana, the girl, was raped before being killed. The three lived at the Montadi Youth Care Centre. Bafana and Hosea were brothers.

Gumede said they lived at the centre because their grandmother, who looked after them, was sometimes hospitalised.

Limpopo police spokeswoman Lt-Col Ronel Otto said their murderer was still at large.

“We have established a team of detectives to specifically focus on the matter,” she said. - Sapa
