Johannesburg - The Goodman Gallery security guard accused of assaulting a man who defaced “The Spear” painting was expected to return to the Hillbrow Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Paul Molesiwa, from the Core Tactical private security company, is charged with assaulting Louis Mabokela at the gallery on May 22.

On the day Mabokela and another man, Barend la Grange, smeared red and black paint over Brett Murray's painting depicting President Jacob Zuma with his genitals exposed.

An e.tv cameraman filmed Molesiwa trying to restrain Mabokela, flipping him to the ground in the process.

Molesiwa was granted bail of R1 000 at his previous appearance.

Mabokela and La Grange were charged with malicious damage to property.

A fourth man, George Moyo, was arrested the same day for spray-painting the letters “r-e-s” on the gallery's exterior wall. The charges against Moyo were dropped. - Sapa
