Cape Town – A suspected gang leader has been arrested for allegedly being in possession of a drug stash worth R100 000.

The 48-year-old man, who may not be named until he appears in court, is the suspected leader of the Clever Kids gang in Manenberg.

Police say the suspect has contravened his parole conditions after he was convicted of gun possession last year.

The suspect, his daughter, 25, and a 35-year-old woman were arrested after cops received a tip-off about drugs being kept at a house in Johanna Court, believed to be a stronghold of the Clever Kids.

Police and members of the City of Cape Town’s Stabilisation Unit, aka Robocops, swooped on the house early on Friday.

A search of the house led police to the roof of the top-floor flat where an assortment of drugs were allegedly found hidden.

Police seized 806 units of ungah, 106 units of tik, 100 grams of uncut tik, 65 ecstasy tablets, 189 mandrax tablets and five packets of uncut heroin.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel André Traut says: "Information was received by Nyanga Stabilisation Unit of suspected drug dealing in Johanna Court at a known address of a known drug dealer and gang leader.

“A 48-year-old male and two females, aged 25 and 35, were arrested for the possession of various drugs worth R100 000."

“The 48-year-old male has also contravened his parole conditions and this is a serious offence which will see him serving the rest of his sentence in prison.”

The suspects will be appearing at the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

In four other drugs busts over the weekend, cops confiscated illegal narcotics worth more than R100 000.

Two people were nabbed in Parow on Sunday for being in possession of a kilogram of mandrax powder and two illegal firearms.

Cops, acting on a tip-off, raided a flat on the corner of Joubert and Piet Retief streets in Parow.

The suspects, a 37-year-old female and a 34-year-old male, are due to appear at the Parow Magistrates' Court on Monday.

On Saturday in Elsies River, cops searched three suspicious-looking persons in a Renault Clio in Owen Street.

Cops found 867 Mandrax tablets worth R52 000.

Two men, aged 21 and 23, and a 24-year-old female are to appear on Monday at the Goodwood Magistrates’ Court on a charge of drug dealing.

On the same day in Lower Main Road, Observatory, two men were allegedly found in possession of four packets of cocaine and a plastic bag of dagga.

And in Victoria Road, Woodstock, police arrested a 21-year-old and 26-year-old for being in possession of 13 dagga and mandrax.

The drugs in both cases are worth R25 000. The suspects will appear at the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
