Cape Town – A gang of robbers dressed in cop uniforms and driving a police van has blown up and robbed the safe of a Cape Flats butchery.

Airport Meats at Airport Industria was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash on Tuesday morning.

The six alleged robbers used explosives to gain entry into the building and also blew the safe open.

According to police sources, four of the suspects wore police uniforms.

“The suspects were in and out very quickly and barely caused any disorder except for the explosion,” said a source.

It is believed they made their getaway in a black VW Polo and a police bakkie. However, police could not confirm this.

The gates to Airport Meats were firmly shut on Tuesday, and nobody was available for comment.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut confirmed a robbery at the premises in Airport Industria.

“They used explosives to gain access to the safe and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

“Four of the suspects were dressed in police uniform. The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently being investigated,” said Traut.
