Gang-raped then left to drive homeComment on this story
Cape Town - A Cape Winelands woman is recovering from an ordeal in which she was hijacked and raped by four men – and then left to drive herself home.
The woman, 27, works for a business in Stellenbosch. She has not been named by police.
She was returning to her home in the upmarket Stellenbosch suburb of Brandwacht on Monday and pulled up outside the house at about 8.20pm.
She was apparently waiting for the electric gate to close when a man she didn’t recognise “knocked on the left window and a second one on the driver’s window”, police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk reported.
“They pulled her out of the vehicle and dragged her to a vehicle parked in the street and drove away with her.”
A source said the police believed she had been driven along the R310, Baden Powell Drive, which passes the Spier wine estate, towards the N2, the site of the Cape Town film studios – but could not be sure.
Van Wyk said: “There were three suspects in the vehicle and they stopped the vehicle in a field.”
A second vehicle joined them.
“They dragged her out of the vehicle and all four suspects raped her.
“She later noticed that the other vehicle was her own. After raping her, they told her to get in her vehicle and go home.”
A source said the woman had driven herself back to Stellenbosch and had immediately been taken to a hospital by a friend.
Another source said that the woman was recovering. She was being nurtured by her “Christian” family.
Police said there had been no arrests. Anyone with information should contact the police in Stellenbosch or Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
Also in the past week, a man delivering a pizza was hijacked in Onderpapagaaiberg in Stellenbosch minutes before reaching the customer. He ended up on the Cape Flats stripped of his vehicle and possessions.
Private security company ADT has warned Cape clients that there has been an increase in hijackings.
