Cape Town - George “Geweld” Thomas has been sentenced to seven life terms for murders either committed or orchestrated from prison, according to reports.

The sentences will run concurrently. Geweld faces additional sentences for several other crimes.

Last month, Thomas and 16 other men were convicted on more than 150 charges, ranging from murder to attempted murder, racketeering and the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Alleged gang boss Thomas was convicted of seven murders.

The 49-year-old had even been found guilty of organising murders from his jail cell in the country’s biggest gang trial, which saw only one of the 18 accused acquitted of all crimes.

The trial has been running for more than four years.
