A Soshanguve man was forced at gunpoint to watch two house robbers gang-rape his girlfriend after they broke into their home.

The couple, who cannot be named because of the nature of the crime, were watching TV in their lounge on Sunday night when their electricity went out.

The 39-year-old man went to the kitchen to check whether the power had tripped - but three men armed with pistols were lying in wait for him.

As the man walked into the kitchen, the gunmen overpowered him and forced him and his 23-year-old girlfriend into their bedroom.

Throwing them on to their bed, one of the gunmen stood over the man while his accomplices took turns to repeatedly rape his girlfriend.

The gunman continued to stand guard over the couple as his accomplices, after raping the woman, ransacked the house.

They fled with R200, a speaker, amplifier, DVD player and two cellphones.

Soshanguve police station spokesman Constable Sello Monyeki confirmed the attack.

He said the suspects had entered the couple’s home through an unlocked kitchen door.

“After they entered the house they turned off the electricity and attacked the boyfriend when he came to investigate why their power had gone out.”

He said no arrests had been made, and police were investigating a case of rape and house robbery.

“Our investigators are following up on information and are hoping for a breakthrough.”
