Johannesburg - A man was sentenced by the Prieska Regional Court to 20 years in prison for murdering his girlfriend, Northern Cape police said on Wednesday.
Gallen Steenkamp was jailed for killing Rachel Thys, who was 28 at the time, in 2005, Lieutenant Sergio Kock said in a statement.
The couple were living together when Thys was reported missing on March 30, 2005. Her badly bruised body was found in a toilet drain in Bosman Street, Marydale, on April 10 that year.
Steenkamp, now 31, was arrested and charged with her murder. He was sentenced on Tuesday.
