Durban -

The police are on the hunt for three men who robbed a woman after she had withdrawn a large amount of cash from Standard Bank at Davenport shopping centre.

The woman, who did not want to be named, withdrew R58 000 from the bank in Glenwood and drove to the Sherwood Children’s Centre on King Cetshwayo (Jan Smuts) Highway to fetch her son.

She was unaware that a vehicle had been following her.

Police spokesman Captain Thulani Zwane said the woman drove into the centre’s car park on Thursday afternoon and got out of her car.

“While she was walking towards the reception area, a gold Toyota entered the parking lot and parked next to her car. A man wearing a balaclava walked up to her and pretended to hug her. He took out a firearm and placed it on her chest. He demanded the car keys and then removed her handbag from the car. She had R4 000 in her purse which was also taken,” Zwane said.

The robber jumped into the car and sped off with two companions.

She would not tell the Daily News why she had withdrawn such a large sum of money. Zwane said the police expected to make an arrest soon.
