The affordable education loan option
Cape Town -
Community Safety MEC Dan Plato has launched a new SMS info line that will allow the public to give tip-offs, raise policing issues, report poor policing and praise good cops in their area.
The 35 395 number has been used before for the popular “Reward a Cop, Report a Cop” programme, but the department identified the need to broaden the function of the number.
Plato said the mobile communication platform would also give the public an opportunity to find out about traffic updates and road safety measures by SMSing the word “info” to 35 395. Once this message was received, the service would provide safety and traffic information and, where required, an official would contact the person directly.
“From today, communities can simply SMS the word ‘safe’ to 35 395 and one of our officials will call them back to gather the information they have on what they feel is most important for the safety of their community, which crimes affect their community the most, and if they have faced any challenges or successes with the local police,” Plato said.
