A man accused of housebreaking and theft was seriously injured by a group in Mthatha on Monday, Eastern Cape police said.

Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela said 11 men aged between 18 and 29 were arrested for assault.

“The group tracked the man down to his workplace in the area where an argument broke out before the assault took place.”

The man was accused of being involved in a recent crime which happened at the home of one of the alleged attackers.

“The injured man was rushed to a local hospital in a critical condition.”

Those arrested were expected to appear in the Mthatha Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. - Sapa
