KwaZulu-Natal - Police officers wept openly on Thursday at the funeral of their colleague Constable Vidhur Jadoo, who was shot dead in an ambush by suspected ATM bombers in Howick on Wednesday.

The Aryan Hall in Raisethorpe, Pietermaritzburg, was packed with family, friends and colleagues of the Pietermaritzburg K9 unit policeman.

Jadoo’s coffin, draped in the national flag, was carried into the hall by his senior officers. A guard of honour was formed by his colleagues and their dogs.

His wife, Ashreena, was inconsolable.

The couple would have celebrated their third wedding anniversary on November 28.

High-ranking police officials spoke at the funeral, including the national commander of the dog unit in Pretoria, Major-General Mike Mohtlala, and Brigadier Aaron Harry, who represented the national police commissioner.

Harry said: “Colleagues, I know you are angry, but we must focus our energy now on serving our communities with more zest and vigour in our late brother’s memory.”

Jadoo joined the SAPS in 2003 and was appointed to the static guard unit in the Eastern Cape, from 2004 to 2005.

He was later assigned to the VIP unit in Pietermaritzburg, from 2005 to 2007, later joining the highway patrol unit.

Jadoo joined the K9 Unit in 2007.

His partner, Warrant Officer Livingstone Mpangase, shot in the face in the attack, is in a serious condition in hospital. - Daily News
