HEIDELBERG SECURITY GUARD ATTACKED

A security guard was attacked by a former colleague at a petroleum depot in Heidelberg, Gauteng police said on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old guard was approached by a former colleague at the depot in Schoeman Street on Monday, Lt-Col Katlego Mogale said.

The former employee was dismissed from the depot on Friday for alleged theft. The 34-year-old guard had lent his former colleague R100. Instead of paying him back as agreed, he allegedly threatened him.

The former colleague set the guard hut alight while the guard was still inside. When the guard tried to get out of the hut, his former colleague stabbed him.

"The victim also sustained serious burn wounds all over the body and has an open wound on the head."

He was taken to Heidelberg Hospital for treatment. Police were investigating a case of attempted murder and malicious damage to property.
