Johannesburg - Five men accused of murdering former Inkatha Freedom Party ward councillor Velaphi Samuel Gumede are expected apply for bail in the Ubombo Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Gumede, 50, was shot dead in Jozini, near St Lucia, on June 13.

He was transporting children from Hlalanathi to the local pre-school in his bakkie when he apparently received a telephone call from someone asking to be towed.

When he arrived at the point of the purported breakdown, he was attacked and killed.
