Johannesburg - A Gupta family domestic worker is believed to be at the centre of a robbery at her employer’s home on Wednesday, where goods worth over R1 million were stolen.

This was after she was caught with some of the goods that were stolen at the prominent family’s compound when she was arrested in Benoni on Wednesday, just hours after the robbery.

Gauteng police spokesman, Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said the incident happened at about noon. Three suspects, whose ages and identities aren’t yet known, overpowered and blindfolded the gardener before entering the house.

“They ransacked the house and made off with household goods, jewellery and cash worth more than R1m in a VW Polo and Toyota minibus,” he said on Thursday.

No one was injured and the Gupta family was not at home at the time.

The three men are still at large, but Dlamini said more arrests in connection with the robbery, were imminent.

The domestic worker disappeared shortly after the robbery.

The 22-year-old has been charged with robbery and possession of suspected stolen goods.

She will appear in the Joburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday. - The Star
