Cape Town - The funeral service for murdered Warrant Officer Petrus Johannes “Burger” Holz will take place on Friday in Somerset West.

Meanwhile, the Hawks say they have a “watertight” case against two suspects arrested for the murder.

The 50-year-old cop, who joined the Hawks in 2007, was stabbed to death with a blunt object in the early hours of Wednesday morning last week after he got a flat tyre on the N2 on his way to work.

Police initially took in four suspects for questioning the same day. Two suspects were charged with murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances on Friday.

The accused - Adrian Hendricks, 22, and Xavier Ryan, 24, - will appear in the dock at the Somerset West Magistrates Court for a second time on Friday.

The matter was postponed last week as the suspects did not have legal representation. Legal aid has now been requested.

On Tuesday Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Malaudzi said that he was satisfied with the progress of the investigation and has every confidence that the “right people will pay for the murder of this upstanding member of the Hawks-squad”.

“We have retrieved all of the stolen items and are well prepared for the trial,” Malaudzi told the Daily Voice.

“We have sufficient witnesses and I am sure this will be a swift trial.”

It’s believed the suspects were accompanied by a prostitute when they allegedly killed Holz.

Malaudzi would neither confirm nor deny whether the woman would be called up as a state witness.

Meanwhile, the prostitute who was taken in for questioning on the day of the murder has denied any involvement in Holz’s murder, saying she was nowhere near the scene at the time.

Speaking to the Daily Voice on Tuesday the 21-year-old admitted to knowing the suspects and “what they got up to on N2”.

“It’s not just on the N2 where this happens, they go to Macassar beach as well to target customers of prostitutes,” says the young woman, who asked not be identified.

“The police picked me up the Wednesday morning and took me to the station. They questioned me until 5pm and then told me to go home.”
