Cape Town - Shortly after the Hawks on Friday issued an arrest warrant for a Turkish suspect wanted for attempted murder following the wounding of a notorious former bouncer boss in a bizarre shoot-out in a Bellville parking lot two weeks ago, Weekend Argus made contact with Bora Unuvar via WhatsApp.

While he acknowledged he had been involved in the shooting, Unuvar said his attorney was handling the matter.

But when he was asked to identify his attorney, he said he didn’t want “any news” about himself in the papers, because false reports had been published.

Police said Unuvar and a friend were involved in an altercation at Eastwoods entertainment lounge on October 4, then removed from the premises. They alleged Unuvar then fetched a gun from his car and shot one of the security staff.

Weekend Argus reported last week that former bouncer boss Andre Naude and martial arts fighter Jan “The Giant” Nortje were both wounded in the shooting, although both denied knowing Unuvar or having an argument with him.

Naude, due in court later this month on suspicion of illegally running a bouncer company, was shot three times.

Unuvar was also hit. He fled and, according to police, was admitted to a nearby hospital. Police say he absconded soon afterwards, and that the Hawks took over the case.

On Friday the provincial police called on the public to help trace Unuvar.

“A warrant of arrest has been issued for the suspect, who is still at large,” said police spokesman Captain Frederick van Wyk.

According to Unuvar’s LinkedIn profile, in which he is listed as “Cagtan Bora Unuvar”, he is the director of Bora Automotive, a spare parts company in Stikland. He also purportedly holds a BComm from Stellenbosch University.

In the WhatsApp conversation with Weekend Argus on Friday, Unuvar said he was still recovering from the shooting.

But asked his version of events, he replied: “No comment.”
