A witness who saw Bianca Warburton shot dead in Alexandra described to the High Court in Johannesburg on Tuesday how the psychology student was murdered.

Charley Sikele told the High Court in Johannesburg he was buying vetkoek from a lady across from where the shooting took place, on the corner of London and First Streets, during a botched hijacking, just before 10am on October 14 last year.

“He bridged (cocked) the firearm and then shot the white person with the firearm,” Sikele replied to questioning from State advocate Deon van Wyk.

He was referring to accused number one, Sthembiso Mseleku, 24.

Sikele described in detail, with hand gestures, how Mseleku pulled the gun from the front of his pants, allegedly shooting Warburton without “saying anything or doing anything beforehand”.

At the previous court hearing, forensic expert Albert Wessels explained the murder was unlikely to have been an accident.

“It would take a deliberate action... to fire this,” Wessels told the court of the 9mm Norinco pistol used to kill Warburton, describing the amount of pressure needed to pull the trigger, and saying it had to be cocked manually.

Mseleku had previously claimed being bewitched at the time and that the shooting had been a mistake.

Warburton was completing her masters degree in educational psychology at Wits University. She was on her way to the Alexandra Clinic when she was shot. - Sapa
