Johannesburg - Residents of Hebron near the City of Tshwane on Friday promised to continue their protests until government gives them what they want.
“We are not going to stop until we get what we want,” community member Joseph Zebediela told Sapa.
“This road [Molefe Makinta highway] will not be usable until then.”
Roads in and around the township were barricaded with rocks and burning tyres as residents expressed their anger.
Zebediela said the protest was fuelled by the Madibeng local municipality's failure to address their demands.
Residents marched to the municipal offices two weeks ago to demand the removal of their local councillor and to have roads in the area fixed.
Residents said they would only stop protesting when government gave them a date to start addressing the issues.
“Without feedback we will continue blocking the roads. We want government to give us a date to say they will start to fix [things] on a particular day,” he said. - Sapa
