Durban - A car was set alight in a bold cash-in-transit heist in Rana Road in Isipingo on Monday night.

Reports indicate that about six suspects pushed a cash-in-transit vehicle off the road and managed to get a few boxes of money out. The hijackers then set alight the car that they had been travelling in. Sources say this was presumably to get rid of fingerprints and evidence.

Division commander Anthony Swardling said the fire department responded to a call-out to the burning vehicle, and arrived to find it gutted.

He said they were told the suspects hijacked a second car and fled with the money.

No arrests have been made and it is unclear if anyone was hurt during the incident.
