Durban - A 16-year-old has been arrested for dealing in ecstasy and cocaine in Hillary.
The teenager, who was arrested in a shopping mall on Wednesday afternoon, has been linked to a notorious ecstasy and cocaine dealer in the area.
He was allegedly found with R7 500 worth of drugs.
On Wednesday, Crime Intelligence, the Hawks, and the SAPS National Intervention Unit, raided the home of an alleged drug dealer after arresting the juvenile.
The suspect was not at home when the police arrived.
Provincial police spokesman, Colonel Jay Naicker, said undercover police had bought up to R20 000 worth of ecstasy and cocaine from the alleged drug dealer in the past two months.
“The last purchase made was this morning (Wednesday). We have received lots of complaints from members of the public about drugs in the area,” he said.
“This afternoon (Wednesday) police arrested a dealer, a juvenile, in a nearby mall,” he said. “We expect to make more arrests soon because we know who they are - the suspects are in their 40s.”
“There are a lot of drug dealers in this area; to us today’s raid is still a victory because he was arrested last week dealing, but he was released on bail. When we catch him, we will combine the dockets,” he said.
The police found two surveillance cameras focused outside the property with a link to a TV in the lounge, where any activity at the gate could be monitored.
The SPCA was brought in to help with four big dogs and about 10 puppies that were on the property.
A man and two women were found in the house. They said the suspects had left in the morning and did not know where they had gone.
Mapulane Tobia, a domestic worker, said she was not aware of any drugs being taken on the property.
“I’m surprised to see all these policemen here, I don’t know anything about drugs… I rent here for R500 per month,” said Leonda Ntobela, who sells garments for the suspect’s wife.
