Johannesburg - A house owner and two suspected robbers have died in a shootout in Bedfordview, on the East Rand, Gauteng police said on Tuesday.

Captain Julia Claassen said the robbers entered the house through a window on Monday night. The man's wife and two children were home at the time.

“When the suspects pointed the owner of the house with their firearms, the owner also drew his firearm. A shootout ensued between the suspects and the owner,” said Claassen.

All three men were shot and died on the scene. The wife and children were unharmed.

“They were just deeply traumatised by everything,” Claassen said. - Sapa
