Bloemfontein -

Two inmates who took a doctor and a nurse hostage at Mangaung Maximum Security Prison will face charges of kidnapping and assault in court, police said on Wednesday.

Colonel Thandi Mbambo said they would appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Sibusiso Nkosi and Abraham Mabe allegedly held a doctor and a nurse hostage at the privately-run prison outside Bloemfontein over a period of 48-hours.

The nurse, who was allegedly assaulted, was released after a few hours, but the doctor was not.

The inmates were apprehended by a prison counter-assault team and police task force members. - Sapa
