Cape Town - Police who stopped at a 24-hour fast food outlet in Durbanville in Cape Town on Wednesday were on hand to foil an armed robbery and arrest four suspects who had tied staff up and were about to make their getaway.

Police spokesperson Colonel Andre Traut said: “During the early hours of this morning, at around 03:45, four suspects managed to gain entry through the serving hatch of a 24 hour fast food outlet in Durbanville, and tied up the staff after threatening them with a firearm.

“They proceeded to help themselves to cash on the premises when police members attached to Durbanville visited the business for refreshments,” Traut said. “After receiving no service, and suspecting something wrong, they entered the premises to investigate the situation and found the employees tied up.

“During a search of the premises, the four suspects were apprehended in the bathroom, still in possession of the cash and a firearm without a serial number.”

The four men, aged between 25 and 28, were due to appear in Bellville Magistrates court on charges of armed robbery.
