Pretoria - Police in Atteridgeville are investigating a case of arson after “a jilted lover” allegedly set fire to the house of his girlfriend’s mother.

According to the owner of the house, Maureen Malatsi, the man was angry after her daughter ended their relationship when she found out the man apparently had a child with another woman.

“When my daughter ended the affair, he (the boyfriend) threatened to shoot her as well as me,” said Malatsi.

She and her daughter got a protection order but the man kept coming back to their home to look for her.

She said her daughter went to stay elsewhere to avoid being hurt.

Malatsi said the suspect went to her house on Thursday while she was at work, and forcibly gained entry to the house using a crow bar. Once inside, he is believed to have poured some petrol in the bedrooms and lounge and then set the house on fire.
