Cape Town - The pastor arrested for a suspected sex attack on a teenage boy has been granted bail.
On Wednesday Zanokhanyo Mnyukulo, 29, walked out of Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court after his wife paid R500 for his release.
Last week the Daily Voice spoke to a 17-year-old who claims the holyman sexually assaulted him.
The teen had gone to Mnyukulo’s church for help with his chronic headaches.
Instead of getting help, the teen says the pastor performed sexual acts on him and kissed him on two different occasions.
He says the third time, Mnyukulo, made him suck his breast, perform oral sex and went on to sit on his lap and penetrate himself using the teen’s penis.
The pastor was arrested on Tuesday morning on a charge of rape.
But in court on Wednesday prosecutors changed that charge to indecent assault.
Dressed sharply in a blazer, jeans and shirt, Mnyukulo took his seat in court.
“The accused before court is a pastor and on the day in question he asked the victim to his office and instructed the victim to kiss his penis,” State Prosecutor Ephraim Mlambo said.
“The State does not have any objections if he is released on bail.”
His lawyer Sabelo Mdoda said his client refutes ever doing anything sexual with the victim.
“He denies there was ever any sucking of the penis. He just confirms that there was the consultation and that they were busy with a healing [ritual],” he told the court.
An hour after he was granted bail, Mnyukulo walked out confidently and greeted his wife and friends outside.
The case has been postponed to August 7 for further investigations.
