Pretoria - Tshwane Barekisi Forum’s general secretary Elliot Nkadimeng was shot and killed in a suspected hijacking in Limpopo this week.

Forum deputy secretary Mary Ngema said Nkadimeng was driving from his home village in Manganeng to Pretoria when he was ambushed by unknown people.

Details surrounding Nkadimeng’s death were sketchy but Ngema said the killers hijacked his BMW vehicle and subsequently gunned him down.

It is not known if the gunmen has been caught. The Pretoria News was unable to trace the police station handling his case.

Ngema said Nkadimeng, who was shot several times at his Nellmapius home in 2014, was driving alone in the car.

“I am going to miss him. He was a humble person. He was always friendly whether one had wronged him or not,” said Ngema.

He had been part of Barekisi Forum - a body looking after the interests of informal traders - since 2012.

Ngema said: “We suspected that the previous shooting was instigated by a disgruntled group of informal traders who never wanted him to lead the forum. He was then threatened that he would die young. We now wonder whether the same group was involved in his killing.”

Nkadimeng plied his trade on Lillian Ngoyi Street in the city centre, where he used to sell CDs.

He is survived by his wife Julia and two children, a boy and a girl.

Forum members will on Friday host a memorial service in Nkadimeng's honour at their offices on Thabo Sehume Street. He will be buried on Sunday in Limpopo.
