Mossel Bay - A man was shot dead in front of his 11-year-old son in Dana Bay in the Southern Cape on Wednesday, police said.

“Waldemar Strauss, 42, was shot in front of his son after intruders armed with guns and knives entered the residence and tied up Strauss and his 38-year-old wife with belts,” said Captain Bernadine Steyn.

She said the intruders woke up the boy, but left their seven-year-old son sleeping in bed.

Strauss, a lawyer, was ordered to open the safe in the main bedroom, where the intruders allegedly took the son.

His wife, 38, was made to open the safe on the ground floor.

Steyn said Strauss was shot in the head.

“The intruders took firearms, cellphones and jewellery from the house before fleeing on foot,” said Steyn. - Sapa
