Johannesburg – The management of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) has requested the City of Johannesburg to provide details of serious corruption cases following a meeting with Mayor Herman Mashaba.

Ipid National spokesperson Moses Dlamini said that a meeting was held with Mashaba, at his request, at their national office.

"The subject of the meeting had to do with various allegations of failure to investigate serious cases of corruption by the Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), otherwise known as “The Hawks”," Dlamini said in a statement.

Dlamini said that Ipid requested the City to provide it with specific details in order for it to assess which of the complaints fell within its mandate and in order to investigate, where it had a mandate.

"Once the requested information has been received and analysed, the Ipid will then take a decision with regard to investigation," Dlamini said in a statement.
