Johannesburg residents should be wary of bogus agents seeking access to properties on the pretence of installing shower taps to save water, the city said on Tuesday.

“No incidents had been reported but we had received calls from concerned residents complaining about four agents spotted in the Lenasia South area,” said Johannesburg Water spokeswoman Millicent Kabwe.

“The agents claim to represent Johannesburg Water and want to install new shower taps inside their properties. Johannesburg Water maintenance work is done by trained technical staff.”

Kabwe warned people that authentic employees would be in a team with identity cards, branded cars and uniforms from Johannesburg Water.

Residents were advised to alert relevant security agencies should they be approached by unidentified and suspicious agents, said Kabwe. - Sapa
