Johannesburg – One man was shot dead and two were critically injured in an incident on Kenya street in Cosmos City, North Johannesburg, on Sunday night, ER24 said in a statement on Monday.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics found a man believed to be in his 30s lying in a small pool of blood on the pavement.

"The man was immediately assessed and found to have sustained a gunshot wound to his chest and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for the man and he was declared dead on the scene."

Meiring said another two people were found further down the road, one with several gunshot wounds and the other with a wound to his shoulder.

They were treated with advanced life support and transported to the Helen Joseph Hospital.

He added that local authorities were investigating the cause of the shooting.
