Johannesburg - The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on Wednesday invited nominations to fill vacancies in several courts.

There were vacancies for judges in the Eastern Cape High Court, the Labour Court, and the Western Cape High Court, the JSC secretariat's Sello Chiloane said in a statement.

A judge president was being sought for the Free State High Court.

“The JSC reserves the right to recommend a candidate for the filling of any vacancy which may exist at the time of the interviews,” Chiloane said.

“This is to avoid a situation which has arisen in the past when, despite the availability of suitable candidates, no appointments could be made to fill vacancies which had occurred subsequent to the notice calling for nominations.”

He said there was a possibility of more judicial vacancies.

The closing date for nominations is August 8.
