Musician Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye did not drive into a group of people in an apparent drag-racing crash in 2010, the Protea Magistrate's Court heard on Friday.

Mpumelelo Vezi testified that it was the car of his co-accused, Themba Tshabalala, that ploughed into a group of school children.

He was a passenger in Tshabalala's car.

Maarohanye and Tshabalala are on trial for murder, attempted murder and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

They were allegedly drag-racing their Mini Coopers along Mdlalose Drive in Protea North, Soweto, on March 8, 2010, when one of their cars ploughed into a group of school pupils.

Four boys were killed and two others severely injured.

Vezi told the court on Friday that Tshabalala was overtaking Maarohanye when a minibus came towards them.

Tshabalala went back into the left lane, but clipped Maarohanye's car as he did so.

Tshabalala lost control when his car hit the pavement, and it ploughed into the children as it overturned.
