Musician Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye had contradicted himself in his testimony in his murder trial arising from a 2010 accident, the Protea Magistrate's Court was told on Monday.
Prosecutor Raymond Mathenjwa made the submission while cross-examining Maarohanye.
Mathenjwa referred Maarohanye to a statement he made in which he said that he had never seen people taking drugs except on television.
Maarohanye told the court on Monday that he had seen some people take drugs in the entertainment industry, and described the various ways in which some of these drugs could be taken.
Mathenjwa asked him if the drugs found in his urine sample were the result of secondary smoking or tampering.
“It could be one of the two,” Maarohanye said.
Maarohanye and co-accused Themba Tshabalala face charges of murder, attempted murder and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Their cars ploughed into a group of schoolchildren, killing four of them and seriously hurting two others while allegedly drag-racing in Soweto on March 08, 2010.
On Monday, Maarohanye changed his testimony that he was driving on the left side of the road shortly before Tshabalala allegedly crashed into his car, causing the accident.
It was put to him that he was driving on the wrong side of the road and that the tracks of his tyres - and witness accounts -
supported this.
Maarohanye disputed this, saying the witnesses and the tyre tracks were “lying”.
He repeated that he blacked out during the crash and could not remember if he was pulled out of his car through a window or the sunroof. - Sapa
