Johannesburg – Judge Brooks presiding in the Sterkspruit High Court has sentenced two rapists to life and another to 20 years behind bars, police said on Tuesday.

Captain Ursula Roelofse said: "In May 2012 the victim was at the tavern with her friends standing outside. The three accused came to them and said that they want to talk to her. She refused and they grabbed her by the arm and dragged her away. All three accused raped her in the open field".

Roelofse said the first accused forcibly took the woman to his house, where he raped her again.

The woman later managed to escape and alerted the police.

The accused were arrested in 2012.

Roelofse said last week on Thursday the accused were found guilty or rape.

Convicted rapist Siyabonga Phanyana was sentenced to two life sentences and an additional eight years for kidnapping.

His co-accused Siphamandla Jikani was also sentenced to life in jail while Aviwe Busakwe was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment, Roelofse said.
