Swellendam - Johannes Kana has been handed a double life sentence for the rape and murder of Bredasdorp teenager Anene Booysen.

On Tuesday, Judge Patricia Goliath found Kana guilty of raping and murdering Booysen in the Swellendam Circuit Court .

Booysen was raped and disembowelled, and died in Tygerberg hospital, Cape Town, on the afternoon of Saturday, February 2.

Kana was seen with Booysen outside a Bredasdorp pub in the early hours of that day.

During his trial, Kana admitted leaving the pub with Booysen, and hitting and raping her, but denied killing her.

In her closing arguments, prosecutor Maria Marshall told the court the State believed Kana caused Booysen's death by pulling out her intestines. - IOL
