Cape Town – The traffic chief of the Karoo town of Prince Albert was on Thursday arrested on charges of corruption.

Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said the arrest by detectives from the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation followed a lengthy investigation.

“This afternoon (Thursday) detectives from the DPCI Anti-corruption Unit arrested the Traffic Chief of the Karoo town of Prince Albert on charges of corruption.

“The 45-year-old official was arrested at about 16:45 at Three Sisters on charges that he allegedly manipulated learner driver licence tests and issued the licences in exchange for payment, thus enriching himself.”

Van Wyk said the man was due to appear in the Oudtshoorn Magistrates Court on Friday.
