Cape Town - Public hearings of the Khayelitsha Commission of Inquiry into alleged police inefficiency in the area will resume next week, an official said on Thursday.
Commission secretary Amanda Dissel said the hearings would take place at Lookout Hill in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, on Monday and Tuesday.
The commission would then sit between March 24 and March 28 and March 31 and April 1.
“During this period, the commission will continue to hear the evidence of police officials from Khayelitsha as well as more senior officials from the province,” said Dissel.
Public sittings for phase two of the commission will take place between May 12 and May 16.
Final argument would be heard on May 29.
Dissel said the date by which the commission had to submit its final report to provincial premier Helen Zille had been extended to July 11.
The commission - headed by retired constitutional court judge Kate O'Regan and advocate Vusi Pikoli Ä was set up by Zille after the Social Justice Coalition complained that police inefficiency was among the main causes of vigilante killings in the area.
